Your mind at present is congested with selfish thougts and desires. It is like cotton clogged with impurities. Impurities stick firmily to cotton. You cannot pull them out easily. There is a special process for purifying cotton of its impurities. It is called carding. Cotton is beaten up with an instrument known as card. The thick mass of cotton is thinned out by beating. Fine fibres of cotton separate and fly about. With the result the impurities sticking to it drop down by gravity. Pure fluffy cotton is collected. A similar effect is brought about upon the mind by the spiritual courses. Egocentric thoughts and desires stick fast to the mind. You cannot remove them easily. The yoga give the mind a high ideal in life. The mind expands with the selfless ideal. Consequently the selfish thoughts and desires fall off. The mind is thus purified. It becomes congenial for concentration and meditation.
